Introducing the newest member to my blog content team: This fearless Friday we are meeting Wayne Welch, aka “Cabana Boy,” (CB) or otherwise know as my husband, which he is not new – almost 23 years of marriage & 27 of hanging out together. He is the main cook and head baker in our house these days. I get in the kitchen along side him, but he usually prefers me not to, because I’m messy. Most of the recipes that you see will be from him. (Lil’ diva will definitely take credit for the ones she drops in here and there….I promise.) 😉 Enough from me for now I’ll let him speak for himself. He is embracing his fearlessness!

Hi, my name is Wayne…

Hi, my name is Wayne Welch, also known to my wife and her friends as the ‘Cabana Boy’. I got that name from a very special lady who loved that I mixed drinks for them them while they hung out at the pool.

One of my passions is cooking and baking. I love to get in the kitchen and mess around with recipes. I do not follow recipes, but find one that like, then tweak it to fit my taste. Baking gourmet cakes is one of my specialties. They are not decorated all fancy, but they taste great. Although I have been know to do elegant accents or con the wife to help in that department. We have conquered the Titanic, Thomas the Tank Engine and an 11 cake buffet – ALL different flavors for our daughter’s wedding.

We love to entertain

One of our favorite things to do is entertain. We love having friends and family over. Whether it’s  grilling, cooking or baking it is what I do. And I love to do it. Making others happy with a great meal or satisfying dessert, just makes me smile.

I love to travel

I love to travel. Travel was a big part of my previous job and which put me out of town for about half of the year. That was fun most of the time, but I was traveling alone… not so great. I had much rather have my family with me. Although, I seen a lot of places on the company dime. I enjoy going to new places, trying new food, and exploring while there. Trying local beers from local breweries is something that I really love. The hoppier the better.

Most of the loves of my life

So, I guess most of the my loves in my life can be summed up: God, family, beer, traveling, friends and food. Not necessarily in this order. LOL! It’s taken Trina a bit to get me on board with sharing my thoughts and cooking experiences, but I’m looking forward to having another opportunity to please people with my eats. Heck, I don’t even have to grocery shop, cook or clean this way! Hope you find a few favorites. As you give them a try, let me know what you think about them in the comments.

Now let’s get to cookin’ the “Cabana Boy (CB)” way. ~ Wayne

  1. Love that y’all have been married 23 years ? we’re working on it 10 years and counting. Love that you like to bake, neither of us actually enjoy cooking but we do make some good food!

    • Some days….I wonder how we have. God does have a good sense of humor, we give him a lot to laugh about. Baking is a joy to me.

  2. Hey Trina! Well one thing we do NOT have in common is I don’t let my husband near a stove, mixer or food processor! lol. But what a blessing it must be to have a man that enjoys cooking, and does it well! I think it’s quite AWESOME that you not only have him to collaborate and share your journey with, but also his obvious support of your adventure! I look forward to a few “recipe swaps” as my recipes are basically generated the same way, tweaking existing recipes!

    • Thanks, Maria! I am quite spoiled & blessed. We have been best friends, for a long time. Guess it works, because we share a lot of the same interest. But….I still don’t like beer. Haha, he said one day…we’ll see.
